This position is responsible for working on special projects, undertaking planning research/policy reviews, preparing reports on Municipal Development Plan, Area Structure Plan and/or Land Use Bylaw amendment applications, and managing subdivision applications.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Prepare reports and/or plans, make recommendations, provide information and perform related duties on projects, bylaw amendments, subdivision applications and other planning matters.
Develop and/or revise policies and regulations for County planning documents and as required prepare associated reports.
Respond to inquiries from the public, developers, builders and other departments regarding planning and development matters.
Review applications for rezoning and other bylaw amendments in accordance with regulations and policies contained in the relevant municipal and provincial legislation (Land Use Bylaw, Municipal Development Plan, Area Structure Plan, etc.).
As required, collaborate with Development Officers to review development permit applications and requests for compliance certificates.
Assist the Planning and Development Technician in processing, reviewing, and endorsing applications.
Prepare reports and make presentations to the Municipal Planning Commission and appeal boards, advisory committees, Plor Council.
When required attend and/or represent the County on a variety of Steering Committees/Boards.
Complete special projects as required.
Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
Bachelor’s degree in planning plus 2 years experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years or more experience in the planning field.
Membership or eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable.
Excellent process design and project management skills.
Strong technical and policy report writing and presentation skills.
Excellent working knowledge of computers and the ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Maintain positive public relations to achieve maximum awareness of bylaws and voluntary compliance.
Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and have the ability to work in a pressured environment and meet deadlines.
Valid class 5 divers license.
