Temporary Nature-Based Solutions Technician (3-month placement)

Are you looking to gain valuable work experience related to nature-based climate solutions? Lethbridge County is excited to announce that our organization has been pre-qualified through ECO Canada’s Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) Program for a 3-month work placement focused on areas of opportunity including climate adaptation, watershed restoration and drought resiliency.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Assist Lethbridge County’s Rural Extension Specialist to promote and identify opportunities for nature-based environmental solutions.

Communicate with local producers and conservation watershed stewardship groups and natural resources management agencies.

Identify potential grants and fundraising opportunities.

Utilize promotional tools such as social media, videos, tours, and presentations.

Participate in meetings and other departmental activities as assigned.

Collect and compile data to support solutions development.

Work with and maintain relationships with sister agencies such as Lethbridge College, University of Lethbridge, Cows and Fish, ECO Canada, and neighboring municipalities.

Coordinate resource conservation extension through workshops, videos, and other methods to promote and implement Nature Based Environmental Solutions.

Work with the Rural Extension Specialist, Assistant Ag Fieldman, and external agencies to enhance riparian areas on and adjacent to land owned by Lethbridge County and stormwater management systems.

Identify and implement water quality solutions for County owned storm ponds and other water conveyance, storage, or collection features.

Participate in ECO Canada and County sponsored training sessions related to nature-based conservation technologies and Lethbridge County operational needs.

Actively participate in Lethbridge County’s Health and Safety Program including attending toolbox meetings, project updates and departmental meetings.

Willing to work overtime, as required by the department, to accomplish tasks in an efficient and timely manner.

Perform pre and post vehicle trip inspections, and report defects as required.

Perform various other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education or previous employment in the Natural Resource sector (oil and gas, forestry, mining, fisheries) is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact with coworkers and the public in a professional manner.

Canadian citizenship, Canadian permanent residency status or Canadian refugee status.

Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.

A valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing.

Satisfactory criminal record check.
