The County of Wetaskiwin is seeking a permanent full time Shop Hand based out of the Wetaskiwin Shop. Reporting to the Fleet Services Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Automotive and Heavy-Duty Mechanics in their daily work along with general shop and yard work. Duties include the use and care of shop equipment and tools, loading and off-loading, welding and general metalwork, management of parts and inventory, parts delivery and pick-up, and pressure washing (cleaning) of fleet vehicles. Regular hours of work are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Assist Automotive and Heavy-Duty Mechanics in their daily work
General shop and yard work
Use and care of shop equipment and tools, loading and off-loading
Welding and general metalwork
Management of parts and inventory
Parts delivery and pick-up
Pressure washing (cleaning) of fleet vehicles
A Class 5 Driver’s license is required; having air endorsement, Class 3 or Class 1 is preferred;
Good physical condition as the work is physical in nature and occasionally, heavy lifting is required as part of regular duty;
Metalwork repairs; cutting, welding, grinding and assembly;
A self-starter with the ability to work independently and without constant supervision;
A team player, able to work in a fast-paced team environment and work well with other shop personnel.
