Shop/Fleet Mechanic

The Municipal District of Lesser Slave River is currently seeking an experienced full-time Shop/Fleet Mechanic. The Mechanic is responsible for managing the Municipal fleet and shop on a day-to-day basis and provide coordination for fleet maintenance and repair for all operational departments of the Municipal District.

Key Responsibilities Include:

·        Coordination of maintenance and repair of all heavy and light duty equipment and vehicles (approximately 80 vehicles and pieces of equipment)

·        Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions

·        Trouble shooting systems –hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of equipment and determine faults and extent of repair

·        Installation of accessory equipment such as GPS Units, Digital Radios, Beacon Lights, etc.

·        Tracking and documenting equipment repair and maintenance

·        Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be maintained and/or repaired

·        Order parts for the servicing and coordinate rebuild of equipment as required

·        Complete fleet reports, inspections, and fill out work orders when required

·        Follow municipal safety procedures

·        Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction

·        This position may require travel to perform duties and overtime to meet operational needs

·        Maintain order, cleanliness, work output and safe working conditions in municipal shops

·        This position is physically demanding and can be strenuous. The mechanic may be lifting, pulling, pushing, and managing various equipment and tools and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally work in adverse weather conditions

·        Other duties as required

Requirements:

·        Alberta or Interprovincial Journeyman/Red Seal Certificate, with applicable work experience

·        High school or equivalent (Required)

·        Licensed to perform Commercial Vehicle inspections is preferred, but not required

·        Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License

·        Must be punctual, reliable, and professional and can work independently

·        Must be quick, proactive, self-disciplined, self-organized, and have a good professional attitude towards the public and staff

·        Solid analytical skills, strategic thinking, and an excellent ability to think quickly and make effective decisions in a high-pressure situation

·        Familiarity with municipal policies and practices

·        Well-developed communication and interpretation skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

·        High degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality

·        Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
