Key Responsibilities Include:
Parkland County has a temporary, full-time position available within the Planning & Development Services Department for a Safety Codes Officer I – Building working until approximately December 2021. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning & Safety Codes, the Safety Codes Officer I - Building conducts preliminary plan and document reviews prior to permit approval and inspects building construction and mechanical systems for compliance. This position is also responsible for completion of written inspection reports and entering inspection records on the electronic system and acts as the liaison to industry, the public and staff. In addition to effective coordination, work scheduling and time management skills, this position requires excellent written and verbal communication in terminology that can be readily understood by the applicants based on their level of industry knowledge.
Rate of Pay: $78,281 to $97,851 per annum. Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35 hours/week. Benefits: Extensive benefits are offered including an option to join our Earned Day Off Program.
Journeyman Trade Certification with five (5) years of relevant experience in the building construction industry; or Certified Engineering Technologist with three (3) years relevant experience in building construction; or be an architect or professional engineer (civil or mechanical) with three (3) years relevant experience after degree in the building construction industry.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience conducting building inspections for residential, commercial and industrial structures.
A valid Certificate of Competency as a Building Safety Codes Officer Group A, Level I and Group B, Level I for the purpose of records management in accordance with the County’s Uniform Quality Management Plan is required. A Level II or Level III certification would be desirable.
Must maintain certification and upgrade training in the building discipline and levels of certification required for the position in accordance with the requirements of the Safety Codes Council.
Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
