Parkland County has a permanent, full-time position available in the Planning & Development Services Department for a Safety Codes Officer – Gas, Plumbing & Private Sewage. Reporting to the Supervisor, Safety Codes Services, the Safety Codes Officer - Gas, Plumbing & Private Sewage issues permits, examines plans, and conducts inspections of gas, plumbing and private sewage installations. Permits must be in compliance with all applicable gas, plumbing and private sewage Codes, standards and associated regulations for elements of public safety governed under the Safety Codes Act and Permit Regulations for the protection and safety of the public. The Safety Codes Officer – Gas, Plumbing & Private Sewage additionally acts as the liaison to industry, the public and staff.

Must meet the prequalification educational and relevant experience requirements for the gas, plumbing and private sewage disciplines as prescribed by the Alberta Safety Codes Council.
Journeyman Trade Certification with five (5) years of relevant experience in the gas, plumbing and private sewage industry.
Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience conducting gas, plumbing and private sewage inspections for residential, commercial and industrial structures.
A valid Certificate of Competency as a Safety Codes Officer: Gas & Plumbing – Group A & B (Private Sewage System Design). Must maintain certification and upgrade training in the gas, plumbing and private sewage discipline and levels of certification required for the position in accordance with the requirements of the Safety Codes Council.
Ability to write technical reports, issue Orders, Refusals and Variances in accordance with the Alberta Building Code.
Must be professional, self-motivated and have the ability to work independently in a team environment.
Proficiency in the use of computers, copiers, fax machines, scanners and digital cameras, as well as strong competencies in Microsoft Word and Outlook, as well as other related Safety Codes Programs.
Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
