Regional Fire Services Coordinator

Are you an experienced fire services leader with a strong ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to grow, support and enhance Lethbridge County’s Fire Response with contracted fire departments? Lethbridge County is recruiting for a term Regional Fire Services Coordinator until December 31, 2021, with the possibility for future extension. This role will involve collaboration with contracted fire departments, ensuring the County’s desired level of service can be achieved, review to ensure response plans are being met, and creation or changes of additional plans as required. You will provide expertise on how to enhance service level while considering financial sustainability. You will assist with written procedures, policies required and supporting documents. In this role you will need to build and foster relationships with partners, where you do not have direct authority to lead, but will collaborate to achieve desired outcomes.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Collaboratively establish and monitor department response plans and ensure appropriate resources are used in accordance with level of service agreements.

Collaborate with contracted department chiefs to enhance local response.

Ensure service levels for partners meet the County service level and provide recommendations.

Offer support to regional partners for fire investigations as needed.

Complete fire inspections in accordance with Lethbridge County’s Fire Quality Management Plan.

Ensure that all incidents that are responded to by the various fire departments are reviewed and post-incident follow up measures are taken if required.

Ensure the County complies with Provincial/Federal statutes and regulations pertaining to controlling fires, providing emergency response services, and limiting property loss.

A strong solution focus and comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions.

A high level of tact and diplomacy is required at all times to succeed in this role.

Various other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of progressive fire experience and completed a minimum 2-year program from an accredited post- secondary institution, in addition to NFPA courses, Fire Safety Codes, Fire Investigation training and Alberta Safety Codes Council certification. This position requires strong collaboration and organization skills with the ability to influence decisions with sound facts and reasoning. This role requires strong written and verbal English skills, an acceptable criminal background check, a Class 5 license in good standing. Additional courses or training related to local government, safety and general emergency response would be an asset. A strong background and familiarity with various types of fire fighting equipment and best practices would also be considered an asset.

This role will work out of the Lethbridge County Administration building with various site visits throughout the County to carry out position responsibilities. In this role you will have access to a county-supplied vehicle to be able to attend responses as needed and carry out position responsibilities.
