Athabasca County is presently accepting applications for a full time, permanent Public Works Maintenance Foreman.
Under supervision, the Maintenance Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the County roadways and related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for supervision, planning, coordinating, and organizing road maintenance
Assist with records management, budget control, and contract supervision.
Supervise and act as first contact to and provide in-service training to grader operators,
truck drivers, maintenance employees, utilizing large equipment.
Preparing cost estimates for grader beats, salt quantities, gravel quantities, etc…
Maintenance investigating and reporting.
In consultation with the Director, Construction Coordinator, and grader operator,
establish priorities for gravelling and maintenance of new and existing roads.
Maintain a daily diary outlining all activities performed and all abnormal conditions
encountered as well as customer requests and complaints.
Assist in preparation of contract packages with specification of maintenance projects for
tendering to bidders.
Ensure safe working practices are observed and report all OH&S related injuries or
property damage regardless of severity within appropriate timelines.
Conduct investigations and submit reports on accidents and other hazardous conditions
discovered in the County road network and promptly attend to all hazardous situations.
Assist in the preparation of maintenance portion of the Road Construction and
Maintenance Budget of the County and ensure that all expenditures are allowed for in
Make recommendations to County Council regarding repair, replacement, and
purchases of equipment on an annual basis.
Definite assets would be experience in operating and maintaining heavy trucks and equipment for summer and winter maintenance of County roadways, having knowledge of the area, a proven supervisory background, and a Class 1 license.
The salary range for this position is $86,067 - $100,686. Athabasca County offers an attractive benefit package and contributes to the Local Authorities Pension Plan.
