Starland County is seeking a highly motivated and intelligent individual to join our team as the PHP Developer / IT Technician. The applicant should be comfortable navigating computer networks, hardware and software and demonstrate an eagerness to learn and understand new systems. The County is looking to further expand the services offered to our employees and citizens through further developing our own web-based technologies. Ideally the applicant would have experience with the PHP programming language and the Laravel framework, however experience with any programming language will be considered. The IT technician side of the job is primarily managing a simple network and basic desktop support.
Ideally the candidate enjoys living in or near a rural community and enjoys less stressful commutes, clean air, lower crime, and a lower cost of living.
The successful candidate must have effective communication, attention to detail and respect all confidentiality requirements.
The applicant must already be able to work in Canada. This full-time permanent position will normally work Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. although there may be occasional work outside those hours. The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check and must be bondable. A competitive salary and excellent benefits package are available. Maintain computers, phone, and network hardware for Starland County
Maintain, update, troubleshoot & provide support for software applications
Offer assistance and support to users with our hardware and software
Ensure systems have virus and ransomware protections in place and that data is properly being backed up
Coordinate 3rd party technical assistance when required
Maintain current knowledge of computer operating procedures and standards
Maintain confidentiality policies and procedures
Write PHP code within the Laravel framework to expand on the capabilities of our web sites
Use GIT versioning system to protect code changes and provide daily log of progress
Maintain PostgreSQL database, maintain data Integrity and ensure regular backups are working
Work to understand municipal processes and users’ needs to improve quality of services offered
Be willing to learn and update skills as technology needs and security threats evolve.
Ideally the candidate would have experience in PHP development, basic IP networks and be familiar enough with the Windows 10 to offer users assistance. However, Starland County is willing to mentor someone who is wanting to enter this field and can provide evidence they possess the necessary aptitude and ability to learn new skills quickly in this field. They should also be able to provide references demonstrating an ongoing desire to learn and try new things.
