We are excited to welcome a new team member to our Financial Services team! The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is not only analytical and detail oriented but is also forward thinking with an innovative approach to the way they work! This position will be directly involved with internal and external stakeholders so strong interpersonal skills will be required to establish and foster strong relationships. Most of the work can be completed remotely but the successful candidate must be able to work from a Sturgeon County facility when needed.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsible for bi-weekly pension and benefit processes and reconciliations.
Assist with bi-weekly payroll processing and reconciliations as required.
Responsible for maintaining pension and benefit information with financial and human resource systems and supporting working papers.
Responsible for bi-weekly Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) reconciliations and supporting backup to support the LAPP year end audit requirements.
Assist with the year end financial statement audit as required pertaining to payroll and benefit processes, documentation, and general inquiries.
Coordination & Administration
Responsible for onboarding new staff to the pension and benefit program and facilitating respective orientations.
Responsible for being the primary benefit liaison for the County to provide timely compensation, benefit, and pension information to staff, Council, and external sources.
Responsible for ongoing pension and benefit program administration to incorporate provider changes and employee updates as necessary.
Assist with the development and maintenance of benefit plans provided to staff and Council by interfacing with carriers, providers, and brokers.
Assist retirees with understanding options and requirements for pension and benefits and maintain contact with eligible retirees for renewal of the post retirement benefit program.
Maintain benefit and pension records for staff and providers in a timely and accurate manner.
Responsible for processing, coordinating, and monitoring short- and long-term disability claims for hourly and salary employees until the claim is closed.
Remain up to date on pension and benefit issues, legislation, procedural, and regulatory requirements.
Source and interpret information independently pertaining to payroll issues, legislation, procedural, and regulatory requirements as required.
Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System, Records Management Program, Legislation, and policies.
Remote work position, however, due to the nature of the position at times may have to be onsite to meet with internal or external stakeholders.

Human resource, benefit, payroll, and/or financial systems experience required
Sturgeon County has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination Directive that requires all new employees to prove that they are fully vaccinated prior to their first day of work. Human Rights Exemptions may be considered but will need to be reviewed before an employee is able to commence work.
Minimum 2 year Post Secondary Diploma required with emphasis in payroll, or human resources, considered an asset from recognized institute.
Experience required is 3-5 years with specific emphasis on benefit, pension, payroll, and/or human resources administration.
Pension, payroll, benefits, and disability management courses considered an asset.
Experience with pension administration and reporting required.
