Respond to CRM initiated information request and service requests.
Handle public inquires and complaints with respect to activities supervised by the incumbent.
Ensure that Transportation issues and concerns of County ratepayers are dealt with in a timely and consistent manner in accordance with policies approved by Council (maintain good public relations).
Respond to Council enquiries.
Provide transportation-related technical support for Council presentations.
Determine resource requirements to meet operational needs.
Coordinate and participate in the recruitment, supervision, and training and performance management of direct reports and permanent staff.
Provide supervision and direction to employees, ensuring maintenance work is carried out by competent staff; assign workloads, and undertake corrective action.
Ensure adequate training is provided staff prior to work being carried out.
Recognize the need and make provision for staff training and development.
Identify innovative ways to reduce costs, reallocation of resources, better way of completing tasks (for self and direct reports), and future resources (human, equipment, tools).
Responsible for seeing contracts through the contract management life cycle (initiation, award, compliance).
Oversee contractor work to ensure contract obligations are being met.
Maintain positive working relationships with contracted resources.
Liaise with contractors regarding work progress.
Ensure contractor operates within the parameters of Sturgeon County and Transportation Department’s policies and procedures (e.g. Alcohol and Drug policy).
Ensure adherence Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
Participate in the “On-Call” schedule, if required.
Act as Manager, Transportation in his/her absence.
Provide advice to the Transportation Manager.
Perform other related duties as required by supervisor.
Required to interact with County employees, citizens, contractors in an appropriate manner as guided by Sturgeon County Values.

To be successful the incumbent must have leadership and management skills which include: excellent public relations, written and verbal communication skills; experience in personnel management; ability to make recommendations and decisions; negotiation skills; proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office programs; knowledge of budgeting and monitoring expenditures to ensure compliance to the budget; ability to plan, organize and supervisor a relevant project ensuring completion in a timely and efficient manner. Must have an awareness of the working of municipal government.
Certificate as an engineering technologist or other related post-secondary education and certifications.
Five years of experience directly related to the construction, operations and maintenance of roadways and drainage including experience with administration activities in a supervisory capacity.
Alberta Public Works Association Level 2 Public Works Supervisor Program.
Must understand road construction survey and design and ability to read blueprints.
Have Geographic Information System experience.
Knowledge of maintenance management system for snow and ice control.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Ground Disturbance Safety Training Level 2 – For Supervisors.
Standard First Aid with CPR.
Safety training in the following areas: Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Fire Extinguisher, Overhead Powerline, Alcohol and Drug Awareness Supervisors, Customer Service.
