Key Responsibilities Include:
As the Municipal Election Advisor, you are the lead advisor on municipal government election legislation and procedures. You utilize your specialized knowledge to support internal and external stakeholders in understanding and/or implementing the Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA).
The LAEA is an important piece of legislation that ensures the municipal election process is conducted in a secure, fair and impartial manner. The LAEA and the Alberta election process is dynamic and has a broad and diverse group of stakeholders. In this role, you will support Alberta’s municipalities as they prepare for and conduct their local municipal elections and by-elections. First and foremost you will be responsible for enhancing municipal operational effectiveness by providing advice and information to elected and appointed municipal officials and the public regarding the LAEA and related legislation and/or regulations.
You will also be responsible for designing and delivering appropriate training programs and support materials for municipalities as well as providing subject matter expertise on local elections for internal stakeholders to inform program, policy and legislative decisions.
2021 is a unique year with provincial votes being held in conjunction with municipal elections and as the municipal election specialist, you would also support the municipal role and Ministry responsibilities outlined in the Senate Election Act and Referendum Act.
In addition, as time allows, you will also contribute to the provision of advisory support to the public, municipal administrators and municipal elected officials on a variety of local governance and administrative topics. This will include advisory calls and emails, training (both on-line and in-person) and responding to ministry correspondence.
