We are looking for a dynamic and strategic Corporate Communications Manager to plan, develop and implement communications strategies, programs and tools to promote and enhance a positive Sturgeon County image. This critical role requires a leader that demonstrates a passion for communications that inspires and motivates the department. The ideal candidate has experience working in a municipal government or non-profit sector. Most of the work can be performed remotely but some in-office work will be required.
Ensure all communication from the County promotes a positive image of Sturgeon County and informs the organization and community of the services and programs provided by the municipality.
Provide specialist input into strategic planning and implementation, public relations, organizational reputation, branding, marketing, and issues management.
Create, implement, and oversee communications programs to promote Sturgeon County’s programs and services through various media, including publications, enhance digital and social media, and events.
Prepare communications for Council; advise on best practices to promote Council’s goals and priorities as identified in the Strategic Plan and provide support in delivering key messages to the County’s stakeholders.
Provide information that is timely, accurate, clear, accessible, and responsive.
Monitor and identify issues affecting the County and develop communication plans and key messages in response to emerging issues and reputation management.
Liaise with departments, external vendors, and media to build and maintain positive relationships.
Oversee the development, maintenance, and measurement of all Sturgeon County communications programs, strategies, tools and develops capacity across the organization.
Serve as the primary media contact for the County; establish and maintain appropriate relationships with media. Prepare and/or approve media releases and statements for the County.
Assume a Public Information Officer role in media and public relations during emergencies, coordinating clear, effective, and timely communications, providing direction and advice on crisis communications.
Oversee special events and social media programs designed to highlight and enhance Sturgeon County’s corporate identity.
Cost-effectively manage the department budget and staff including coaching and mentoring.
Advise managers on communications best practices, emerging issues, appropriate tools for each situation, and appropriate responses.
Provide communications guidance, culture of two-way communication excellence, and assistance to County staff members.
Carry out special projects as required.
Adhere to the applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
Experience managing multiple projects in a busy, proactive, and reactive environment.
Relationship management and leadership skills are necessary for directing staff and overseeing projects.
Must demonstrate proficiency in community engagement, time management, budget and project management, interpersonal skills, marketing, research and analytical skills, experience with the digital landscape, and strong written and oral abilities.
Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Public Administration. Accreditation with the IABC, CPRS or NAGC is an asset. Seven (7) to ten (10) years relevant experience in general Corporate Communications in a public sector or not-for-profit organization. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also appropriate. Membership/involvement with the following professional organizations:
