The Lesser Slave Regional Waste Management Services Commission seeks seasonal Landfill Equipment Operators for the approximate period of May to September 2022. Reporting to the Landfill Manager or designated supervisor, Landfill Equipment Operators are responsible for operation of truck, pup, and tandem trailers, water tanker, and a variety of heavy equipment including excavator, grader, dozer, loader, and packer on MD-owned roadways and construction projects.
For this season, in particular, this role will support the rollout of the Commission’s home composting program pilot.
These positions will report to the Lesser Slave River Regional Landfill located west of Slave Lake at Wagner Alberta, working a 40-hour workweek based on a rotating schedule including weekends.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Duties may include (but are not limited to):
Participates in equipment operation
Participates in education and awareness activities for the home composting pilot program
Loads and hauls equipment, gravel, asphalt, culverts, salt, sand, and potable water
Coordinates approved elements of the communication plan, refining based on outcomes
Partakes in rough and fine grading, finishing, sloping, and banking as well as excavating, ditching, and backfilling
Liaises with the public encouraging recycling initiatives and waste-reduction, home composting, and selected material recovery programs
Researches and creates promotional materials for programs above
Monitors patron incoming and outgoing materials
Maintains, services, and repairs trucks and equipment according to maintenance policy
Handles all aspects of loading/unloading, safety, and security of cargo
Operates the office computer software for the scale tracking, inclusive of reporting requirements
Performs duties associated with seasonal ground maintenance utilizing hand and motorized equipment
Opportunities for skill development such as safe equipment operation and maintenance, program research/design/implementation
Other duties as required
Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s licence required (Class 1 licence an asset)
Grade 12 high school diploma
Ability to perform duties requiring physical labour
Strong computer skills and internet research aptitude
Ability to drive in all kinds of weather, traffic, and road conditions
Ability to work alone and follow safety procedures
Strong interpersonal skills with co-workers and the public
Must be able to get to/from the WMF independently
First Aid/CPR certification – asset
Environmental educational background – asset
Equipment experience – asset
Salary Range: $16.93 - $23.46/hour, dependent upon education and experience
