Reporting to the Intergovernmental Advisor in the Development Services Division Office, the Intergovernmental Policy Advisor serves to:
- Support Sturgeon County’s Intergovernmental planning, advice, monitoring and analysis initiatives
- Gather, analyze, evaluate and monitor new and existing regional, provincial, and federal policies in relation to the interests of Sturgeon County; work with Sturgeon County’s Intergovernmental Advisor to develop approaches and timely follow up actions
- Prepare materials such as reports, presentations, communications, speaking notes, and other resources as needed
- Research and prepare recommendations on Sturgeon County’s responses to requests from federal and provincial governments, municipalities, and municipal organizations as directed
Key Responsibilities Include:
Support projects of an intergovernmental nature
- As required, support inter municipal and inter governmental efforts, such as Intermunicipal Collaboration Frameworks, regional zone meetings, Intermunicipal Affairs Committees, and regional consultations
- Organize meetings, establish agendas, prepare or secure briefings and maintain action registers and performance metrics on key intergovernmental initiatives
- Manage content related to Intergovernmental Affairs on the Sturgeon County website
- Document and provide regular progress updates and status reporting on projects
Regional Relation ship Building and Representation
- Maintain an appropriate understanding of issues and support relationship building efforts with internal and external clients, including other municipalities, levels of government, municipal associations, indigenous groups, etc.
- Maintain and enhance relationships and promote the reputation of Sturgeon County as a leader in regional cooperation
- Support the implementation of Council’s Advocacy Plan, prepare relevant materials and track progress
- As required, attend or participate in regional inter municipal and inter governmental meetings, sometimes in parallel with content owner department(s), to ensure continuity and to provide back up, when required
Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or Arts (equivalencies will be
- Minimum three (3) years experience in public sector professional environment
- Exceptional communication, time management, organizational skills, and ability to manage projects required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Certification in Indigenous Community Engagement considered an asset
- Valid Drivers license required
