Instrumentation Technician – Dual Trade

Key Responsibilities Include:

Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Utilities Manager, performs responsible technical and electrical work in the operation and general maintenance of equipment at all water and waste water treatment plants and collection and distribution facilities. Work involves performing difficult technical and skilled work in the design, set up, calibration, repair and maintenance of instrumentation and instrument control equipment. Incumbent must exercise judgment based on training and experience in making decisions and coordinating the proper operation of equipment and electrical work and systems. Incumbent must also exercise tact, courtesy and firmness when in contact with customers and the general public. Journeyperson may be assigned helpers or apprentices as required. Performs on-call duties.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required

Alberta Journeyperson in Instrumentation Mechanics required

Qualified Journey Electrical is required

Red Seal certifications preferred

Three (3) years related experience in electronics/instrumentation repair and maintenance and digital electronics or ladder logic programming; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

A valid Alberta Class Five (5) driver’s license is required (clear driving abstract is an asset).

The ideal candidate is an effective and analytical troubleshooter with the ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions with instrumentation and electrical circuitry and systems, and ability to repair them. Other skills include a comprehension of schematics, blue prints, and P&ID drawings; strong verbal and written communication skills; computer skills, and a self-starter.

Hours Per Week:   40/week. Shift work includes evenings and weekends and follows an Hours of Work Averaging Agreement work schedule as per the current CUPE 135 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Pay Scale:  Instrumentation Technician – Dual Trade - $40.07/hour

Benefits:  As per the Town’s HR Policy and CUPE 135 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
