The City of Red Deer is currently seeking a permanent full-time HR Specialist – Pensions & Benefits in our Human Resources Department. This position is responsible for providing senior working level expertise in pensions and benefits administration; providing direction and guidance to management and other HR staff; managing the administrative processes for pensions and benefits; acting as a resource and investigating complex situations for cases relating to pensions, retiree benefits, benefit plans, and disability claims; policy development; liaising with Labour Relations and others to resolve issues; undertaking a variety of projects and assignments to enhance the performance of pensions and benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational, analytical, mathematical, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to process a high volume of information accurately within rigid deadlines.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of basic office and accounting procedures.
Requirements:
As our preferred candidate you will have:
- One of the following combinations of related education (eg: Human Resources, Business Administration, etc) and related experience in pensions and/or benefits administration (including practical experience implementing these programs), interpreting and applying policies, agreements, legislation and policies relevant to pension and benefit plans:
- A recognized certificate and at least six years related experience as outlined above OR
- A recognized diploma and at least four years related experience.
- Defined benefit pension plan administration experience.
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- A general knowledge of Canadian payroll.
- A working knowledge of HRIS software.
- Experience working in a large complex, unionized organization is a definite asset.
