Groundskeeper Labourer

Key Responsibilities Include:

SUMMARY:

The Groundskeeper Labourer reports to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance and is generally responsible for lawn care and maintenance, shoveling snow and assisting with building maintenance and various projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MAJOR

Perform lawn maintenance in and around various Municipal facilities as directed

Operate a lawn tractor with mid mount mower to cut grass

Operate zero-turn mowers and gas-powered weed trimmers

Maintain flower beds, planters, and trees, weed removal, soil aeration and watering

Debris and garbage pickup and removal from sites

Handpick weeds on maintained sites

Assist with cleanup of facilities including brooming and sweeping of parking lots and sidewalks

Daily documentation and log recording

Ensure that work schedule complies with Greenview’s Groundskeeper manual & safety standards and work procedures

Site preparation, laying of sod and landscaping

Assist with minor maintenance and repairs, including inspections in and around various Municipal facilities

Assist with snow removal to permit safe access to and from parking lots and doorways for all Municipal owned and operated buildings

Paint exterior and interior of buildings and equipment as required

Assist with setting up the holiday decorations in and around various Municipal facilities

Order and track disposable cleaning and janitorial supplies

Assist with project upgrade supervision

Operate and perform minor maintenance on lawn tractor and small equipment

Emptying all recycling bins from office buildings

MINOR

Perform general manual labour duties as required

Direct summer staff and contractors as required

Perform water pump and trailer maintenance, including seasonal placement of the equipment.

Assist with the delivery and / or redirection of freight to various locations as required

Inspect first aid kits, eye wash stations and fire extinguishers annually, and check and maintain supplies monthly

Other duties as required

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform the duties listed above to a high degree of quality, timeliness and precision

Grade 12 diploma

Class 5 driver’s license

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Good verbal and listening communication skills

Knowledge of working with and general maintaining of power tools, lawn mowers and hand tools

Must be self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision

Use and safe operation of a vehicle and trailer

Ability to load equipment onto a trailer

Ability to interpret, implement and adhere to organizational policies and procedures

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

Moderate physical effort; occasional heavy lifting

Extensive periods of sitting, standing, and walking

Exposed to working in a high noise environment

Subject to working in outdoor environment – heat, cold, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees, and wildlife

Subject to cuts, scrapes, falls, and burns

Hazards associated with working on or alongside roadways

Normal working day consists of 7.5 hours; however occasional overtime may be required

HEALTH & SAFETY:

All employees of the Municipal District are governed by and must be compliant with the Municipal District Occupational Health and Safety Policy.

Ensures all operations are conducted in a safe manner and in accordance with Municipal District Policies and Occupational Health & Safety Regulations

Adhere to grounds keeping safety procedures

Required to wear correct Personal Protective Equipment as per safe job procedures
