General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services

Key Responsibilities Include:

Parkland County has a permanent, full-time position available in the Public Works Department for a General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services. Reporting to the Manager, Water, Wastewater & Solid Waste Services, the General Supervisor, Solid Waste Services provides supervisory, technical and field support services for the County’s solid waste operation and is the designated environmental resource person for Parkland County’s solid waste program. This position is responsible for supervising solid waste staff; overseeing landfill, transfer station and recycling operations; and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer services skills are required, as well as strong working technical knowledge of the solid waste industry.

Rate of Pay: $86,968 to $108,710 per annum
Hours of Work: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week

Requirements:

Grade 12 diploma supplement with courses in Solid Waste Management (including recycling) and some post secondary training in Environmental Management is required.

Minimum one year experience in each solid waste disposal (operation of transfer stations), landfill operation and environmental type management operations is required.

Minimum three years’ experience supervising unionized staff in an operational environment is required.

Certification, or ability to obtain certification in Landfill Operations to designated level of facilities (Class II B) and Alberta Environment Certification in Transfer Station Operations is required.

Ability to communicate and maintain an effective, courteous, and tactful service relationship with internal contacts and external customers

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form are required.

Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
