We are currently recruiting for a full-time, term Environmental Inspector.
About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Environment, this position has an active role in managing environmental projects to meet regulatory requirements and oversees the review and approval of all final lot grading certificates for the City of Leduc. Approximately half of the year will be allocated to performing lot grading inspections with the other half allocated to project management of contaminated sites and assisting with implementation of other environmental projects. As part of the Environment team in the Engineering & Environment Department, this position will assist, as required, on other environmental initiatives arising from Council approved plans such as Environmental Plan, Weather & Climate Readiness Plan, Greenhouse Gas Reduction Action Plan, Water Conservation, Productivity and Efficiency Plan, Integrated Pest Management Plan and/or Salt Management Plan. The position will also participate in the delivery of environmental and waste reduction events and other public communication activities which may require occasional evening and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Review final grade certificates and conduct final grade inspections in consultation with Engineering and Planning & Development departments.
- Maintain detailed records of final grade assessments and respond to lot grading inquires and drainage concerns.
- Liaise with residents, other departments, and external agencies and coordinate site visits, as required, to mediate discussions and minimize concerns.
- Manage project budgets and grant reporting for various contaminated site projects.
- Coordinate consultants to conduct environmental site assessments and provide monitoring reports and remedial action planning.
- Regulatory reporting e.g. preparation of reports for wastewater commission permitting requirements and to meet accounting board standards.
- Conduct environmental reviews of lot files and other Planning documents.
- Assist with the implementation of other environmental initiatives as outlined in the paragraph above. Tasks may include: preparation of Proposal (RFP) documents and participation in the selection process, assistance in budget preparation relating to capital environmental projects, development of specific information and/or bylaws for senior management or Council as requested, technical support for Committees / Boards as directed by management, assistance in the delivery of environmental and waste reduction events and other public communication activities.
- Ensure compliance with the City of Leduc Health and Safety Policies.
Requirements:
You are the successful candidate for this position if you have the following:
- A technical engineering diploma from a recognized technical institute or a Bachelor of Science with an environmentally focused major or specialization.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in municipal works, construction, environmental or consulting work or another relevant field.
- A basic understanding of municipal permitting, lot grading requirements, surveying and/or stormwater management would be an asset.
- Experience with environmental site assessments, environmental monitoring and sampling, and remedial action planning would be an asset.
- Must possess exceptional communication and report writing skills along with excellent customer service and negotiation skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office software is required. Knowledge and experience with Bluebeam and GIS software would be an asset.
- Must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check and an acceptable Driving Abstract if selected for the position.
- Must be fully immunized against COVID-19 and willing to provide proof of immunization prior to start date.
