The opportunity

Leduc County is looking an experienced and highly motivated Engineering Student – Seasonal to join our team. Reporting to the Manager – Engineering, this exciting opportunity provides technical support to the County’s road programs, transportation, water distribution, wastewater collection system and stormwater management operations.

Key Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Assists with preparing technical analysis for the roads (gravel and surfaced), bridges, and water and wastewater systems projects.
  • Prepares technical reports for the Engineering department.
  • Provides site inspections, quantity calculations, and quality control for municipal construction and land development projects.
  • Performs traffic counts for the annual traffic monitoring program.
  • Conducts field surveys and on-site assessments.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’ policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
  • Performs related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

What you need to succeed

Must-have

  • Enrolment in a civil engineering program and completion of at least one year of coursework.
  • A service focus with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Nice to have

  • Experience in road construction (gravel and surfaced), bridges, culverts, and water and wastewater systems, as well as familiarity with municipal operations and knowledge of rural communities.
  • Experience and/or education in the operation and maintenance of water, wastewater, and solid waste infrastructure, and proficiency with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Geographic Information System (GIS).
