Economic Development Officer

The Town of Morinville is currently seeking a full-time Economic Development Officer to join the Planning & Economic Development team. Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Economic Development, this position is responsible for identifying, developing, and delivering economic development activities that foster economic growth and support local business development, consistent with the Town’s goals. The Economic Development Officer is responsible for identifying appropriate sites for commercial and industrial development and attracting businesses for new and existing sites.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Continually improve upon and implement Morinville’s Economic Development Strategic Action Plan while pursuing economic development projects, delivering programs and services to the businesses of the Town, and marketing and promoting the Town locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.

Identify potential new strategies in conjunction with stakeholders while building on existing opportunities.

Prepare Reports and Business Cases for Council to support implementation of Economic Development strategies, programs, grants, and on matters as requested.

Develop appropriate promotional and marketing tools and community-building events to support business recruitment and development.

Conduct and attract interviews with media and develop information requests from media outlets as requested when pertaining to economic development.

Facilitate productive communication between businesses, investors, council, the community, and the region.

Attend meetings with government, community, businesses, and regional groups.

Prepare and present financial and statistical records and reports where they pertain to investment growth.

Maintain accurate and relevant demographics, statistics and inventory of available commercial/industrial land and buildings. Make available online and through inquiries.

Research and development policy regarding economic development, including commercial infill and brownfield development.

Requirements:

Post Secondary Degree in Business/Commerce, Planning, Marketing, Economics, Public Administration (Education and experience equivalencies may be considered).

Minimum of five (5) years of working experience in Economic Development or Planning and Development. Marketing, Public Relations, or a combination of relevant experience will be considered.

A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

Economic Development certification or similar designation is considered an asset.

Proficient in interpersonal communication, both verbal and written, including public speaking and report writing.

Experience in preparing and managing project plans, strategies, and policies.

Extensive working knowledge of requirements, tools, instruments, and mechanisms associated with and available to both economic development and planning.

The successful candidate will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract prior to the commencement of employment.
