We are currently recruiting for an Economic Development Manager to lead and manage the Economic Development Program and Department. This exciting role will develop, implement, manage, promote, monitor and report on Economic Development, strategies and project plans at the County.
Part of Council's Strategic Plan is to build vibrant and prosperous communities by providing supports to our partners to encourage economic development; and to our stakeholders to encourage community development. As the Manager, you would be responsible for leading, managing and directing the Economic Development department to support the County of Grande Prairie's Vision, Strategic and Corporate Business Plans as well as increasing the total wealth in the County of Grande Prairie. Reporting directly to the Director of Planning and Development, you will advise, influence, and inform the Senior Leadership Team of the operations, affairs, and the direction of the department.
Collaborating with the Economic Development team and other County departments in a wide variety of areas including investment attraction, entrepreneurial development, business retention and expansion, workforce training, marketing, social media, tourism and land development. The ideal candidate will be able to work collaboratively in a high functioning team that includes two Economic Development Officers and one Coordinator.
Primary Duties will include:
Managing County's Growth and Economic Development Strategy
Pursuing projects and opportunities that will provide long term economic sustainability for the County of Grande Prairie
Preparing strategic plans and initiating economic development initiatives
Identifying and promoting new business or industrial opportunities as well as working with existing ones to promote improvements and expansions
An undergraduate degree in a discipline related to economic development (marketing, business administration)
Economic Development designation (EC.D and or CEcD)
5-10 years' experience working directly in the economic development field within a municipality
Strong computer skills are essential (MS Office 365)
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop)
Experience developing and implementing strategies, programs and services that meet the needs of the business and investment community
Knowledge of the County of Grande Prairie and its business community
This position will involve travel to Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Toronto.
