Athabasca County is currently accepting applications for a temporary Development Officer in the Planning and Development Department. This position will undertake a variety of current planning activities including processing development permits/compliance, subdivision, and bylaw amendment applications.
This temporary employment opportunity is an on-site position located at the County Administration building in Athabasca, AB.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide information and expertise related to Development to other departments, developers, contractors, architects, the general public, and other municipalities.
- Participate in the development and revision of planning legislation including Land Use Bylaw, Municipal Development Plan, Inter-Municipal Development Plans, as well as other plans and planning studies as may be approved by County Council.
- Review Building Permit applications to ensure compliance with the Land Use Bylaw and that they accurately reflect the approved development permit plans.
- Follow-up to ensure Development Permit conditions are met and liaise with Safety Code Authority to gather appropriate documentation.
- Review developments and subdivisions within the County to ensure that developers and landowners have met all conditions of the appropriate Permits on a regular basis.
- Issue orders of compliance pursuant to the Land Use Bylaw and Municipal Government Act under the direction of the Director of Planning & Development.
- Attend and make presentations at appeal hearings before the MPC, Subdivision and Development Appeal Board and Municipal Government Board, as required.

- Attend and participate in open houses and public engagements for the purpose of land development and plan amendments.
- Present at public hearings as required.
- Be familiar with the records retention policy and procedures; ensure all information is properly marked, organized, and maintained accordingly.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of extensive planning experience and a Land Use Planning Certificate. GIS knowledge would be considered an asset.
The current annual salary range for this position is $77,998 - $91,246.
