Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree (i.e. Business, Public Administration), with major course work in fire service, fire administration, public safety or a related field, with a minimum of 7 – 10 years’ experience in all aspects of fire services, including extensive fire command and 5 years supervisory experience. A comparable combination of education and experience in progressively complex organizations may be considered.
The successful candidate will possess ICS 400 certification, and have a thorough understanding of Fire Services, Emergency Management, Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, with municipal governance training being an asset. Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as a Primary Care or Advanced Care Paramedic is an asset. Experience at the leadership level of an organization with ability to be a key decision-maker will be key attributes for competent performance in this role.
Additionally, the successful candidate will possess the highest level of integrity, values and ethics as well as be an accomplished and experienced consensus-builder. A history of inspiring a shared vision and driving results in a climate of accountability is essential, as is being known as a politically astute leader who is comfortable working with Council, community groups and the media. The successful candidate will be able to work independently, be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to develop project plans and utilize resources to deliver services on time and on budget in a fast-paced and changing work environment.
Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license is required and prior to employment the successful candidate must produce, at their own expense, an official 3 year Driving Abstract from their local Provincial Registries Office verifying a satisfactory driving record of no more than six demerits and complete a City of Leduc Safe Driving Review. The successful candidate will also be required to provide a cleared Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector.
The successful candidate will be required to reside within the City of Leduc Corporate limits to provide an on-call Duty Chief Officer rotation.
