The County of Vermilion River is seeking a highly motivated person to join our team as Community Peace Officer - Level 1. This position is responsible for enforcement of Municipal Bylaws and Provincial Statutes as approved by the Province of Alberta. A key component is working with our industry partners to protect CVR road infrastructure through permits, road use agreements, portable and static scales. The program is delivered through a proactive, preventative, educational and highly visible patrol program.

Enforcement (patrols to prevent and detect violations of Municipal Bylaws and select Provincial Statutes within the County, with the focus being on commercial vehicles)
Investigation (investigate complaints and incidents involving violations)
Public Awareness (work with Enforcement team to maintain positive public relations)
Will possess a CPO Level 1 Certification
Has knowledge in the use of portable scales, weights and dimension regulations
Has a combination of High School Diploma and Law Enforcement diploma/accredited police training (equivalent combination of enforcement related experience and education will be considered).
Has a valid P.A.R.E. certification (or equivalent)
Has no outstanding criminal charges.
Has a valid class 5 drivers license , First Aid and CPR certification.
Has some specialized training such as defensive tactics training (O.C, baton etc),Commercial Vehicle Weight Enforcement, Traffic Enforcement (laser & radar), child safety seat technician, EVOC, CVSA and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
Must be able to work under minimal supervision; irregular shift work including some weekends/holidays/peak seasons (ie. during spring road bans)
Able to complete accurate and timely reporting and filing (verbal, digital, and hand-written)
Able to deal with the public (often in confrontational situations) and have exceptional customer service and communications skills
