Key Responsibilities Include:
Parkland County has a permanent, full-time position available in Planning & Development Services for a Community Peace Officer (Development Compliance). Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning & Safety Codes and working closely with Enforcement Services, the Community Peace Officer (Development Compliance) primarily responds to and investigates land use complaints. This position engages a proactive and collaborative outreach style of enforcement, liaises with residents and businesses in a respectful manner and ensures public awareness and enforcement of County bylaws.
Rate of Pay: $34.48 to $47.19 per hour
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers- Local Union No. 955, Community Peace Officer Unit, Collective Agreement.
Requirements:
- Grade 12 Diploma is required, with preference given to those who have received and successfully completed a recognized law enforcement training program from a police force or college, or the Alberta Solicitor General’s Public Security Peace Officer Training (within the last 5 years).
- Previous employment with an accredited Police force or Community Peace Officer Service is recognized, as is experience received in a field training capacity (i.e. cadet or auxiliary programs). Assets include certification (training) in OC spray, ASP Baton (within the last 5 years).
- A good working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act along with strong writing, presentation, negotiations, and organizational skills is required.
- Superior interpersonal skills in dealing effectively with the general public, and good analytical and problem-solving skills is required.
- Successful completion of an approved Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation (PARE) test if necessary.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
