Key Responsibilities Include:
Parkland County has an immediate need for Firefighters for a term of up to three months. Stationed at the Tomahawk Firehall and reporting to the Deputy Fire Chiefs, the Firefighter is primarily responsible for conducting fireline patrols on the Tomahawk Wildfire, actioning hotspots where required to maintain existing fire perimeters and protect life and property within the wildfire zone. This position may also be responsible for performing the duties and services provided by Parkland County Fire Services. This includes serving as a first responder and responding to emergency incidents such as, but not limited to: fires, medical first responses, motor vehicle incidents, alarm calls, hazardous material incidents, water incidents, rescue incidents and rail incidents. This position may also participate in regular training, public education, preventative maintenance, and other duties as required.
Grade 12 education, Standard First Aid with Level C CPR, NFPA 1001 – Firefighter Level 2 (minus DG Ops) and NFPA 1002 – Chapter 4 or IAPD, and NFPA 1051 – Wildland Firefighter (or equivalent) is required.
A combination of education and experience in Fire Services operations, S-215/Structure Protection Sprinkler Training, NFPA 1002 – Apparatus Operator, NFPA 1021 – Fire Officer, Level 1, and NFPA 1002 – Chapter 5 Basic is preferred.
One years’ experience with a fire service department or agency. One or more seasons of wildland fire suppression experience is preferred.
Must be professional, self-motivated, have the ability to work independently or in a team environment and remain calm in stressful or emergency situations.
General computer proficiency with basic competencies with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook along with proficiency using office equipment and digital cameras.
Possession of a valid Alberta driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required. A Class 3 Driver’s License with air endorsement is preferred.
Rate of Pay: $39.10 - $48.88 per hour
Hours of Work: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week
