- Previous experience on a road construction crew operating pieces of heavy equipment such as dozer, scraper or grader.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with air brake (Q) endorsement in good standing. A higher license class is considered an asset. A 5-year driver’s abstract will be required to ensure compliance with County Policy.
- Minimum Grade 12 High School Education, GED or equivalent.
- Knowledge of survey and field applications regarding work stakes, baseline, slopes, etc. is an asset.
- Flagging and additional safety training is an asset.
- Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
- Mechanically inclined, with the ability to troubleshoot potential equipment issues.
- Physically fit and able to lift heavy loads (50 lbs) occasionally.
- Adaptable to worksites that include a high level of dust, grease, mud or noise and outdoor temperatures that vary from hot to cold.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other staff members, supervisors and the general public.
- Ability to identify, assess and report existing or potential health and safety hazards.
- This position may be subject to field evaluations to determine abilities operating specified equipment.
This casual position works 44-hours per week for the construction season working 9-hour days Monday through Thursday (7:00am-4:30pm) and 8-hours on Friday (7:00am-3:30pm) out of our Picture Butte Shop or other suitable locations within the County as required. This position may be subject to overtime to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Casual staff are laid off in the fall or when projects are complete and Casual employees in good standing have a chance at recall for future work.
