The main focus of this position is to perform all necessary repairs, inspections and maintenance to County automotive and emergency services fleet. An asset would be experience in welding repairs and fabrication.
Services and repairs all County vehicles and equipment as required in Fleet & Facility Services shop or on site.
Perform maintenance and repair an external customer vehicles or equipment as directed by Shop Supervisor.
Services and repairs County Emergency Services vehicles and equipment as directed by Shop Supervisor.
Conducts Commercial Vehicle Inspections on all County multi passenger vans in accordance with Provincial guidelines.
Services and repairs County small engine equipment (chain saws, mowers, pumps, etc.).
Performs welding repairs and fabricating of special equipment needed for custom applications as required in the Fleet & Building Services Shop or on the work site within the County.
Responsible to provide accurate parts order lists for required repairs.
Provides feedback to the manager on changes required to the Preventive Maintenance Program to ensure it is effective and efficient.
Accurately completes the required portion of the work orders on all repairs and maintenance performed.
Reports to the Manager, Fleet & Facility Services of any irregularities in the operation and care of County vehicles.
Ensures all repairs are performed in a cost effective and timely manner.
Attend Technical Training upgrading as required by the manager.
Guides and directs any service personnel in his/her care.
Assist in the training and supervision at Automotive Service Technician Apprentice and/or Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP), student as dictated by the current Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training standards.
Provides daily updates on work order status to Supplies & Equipment Coordinator.
Performs other related duties as required by Shop Supervisor or Manager.
Adhere to applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.
Must work effectively and efficiently with others and alone, always be punctual, be organized and perform accurate work, communicate openly and contribute through ideas and voicing of concerns. Work is performed in the Fleet & Facility Services Shop or on a work site within the County. Heavy physical job requirements of occasional lifting of 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, climbing, crawling and extended twisting movements.
This position requires a current Alberta Automotive Service Technician Certificate or equivalent and 2-3 years’ experience on mobile fire fighting vehicles and equipment would be an asset. Welding experience in a repair or fabrication capacity is a strong asset. Must use own personal hand tools to perform this job. Experience in working with a Preventive Maintenance Program would be an asset.
