Special Areas Board operates a modernized fleet of equipment and is focused on a detailed preventative maintenance and repair program. Work will consist of a combination of field service and in shop repairs and maintenance. The Youngstown Service Centre consists of nineteen (19) equipment bays and cares for and maintains over 300 pieces of equipment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Key Duties will include:
Analysis, repair, and maintenance of:
Light duty vehicles and light trucks within Special Areas
Adjust, test and repair components and systems including:
Engines (gasoline and diesel)
steering systems and braking systems
electrical and air condition systems
Perform Inspections for Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certifications (CVIP)
Delivering and adherence with Special Areas Safety Program and all reporting requirements
Grade 12 (or an equivalent GED)
Journeyperson Automotive Mechanic Certificate, valid in the province of Alberta
2-5 years related experience with Commercial Vehicle Inspection knowledge
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
Physical capabilities to perform job duties - required lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs
Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion and use good judgement
These are designated safety sensitive positions and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees
Auto Apprentices will be considered and are welcome to apply – Apprentices are paid a percentage of a journeyperson’s wage rate, which increases with each successful year of training.
Overtime work may be expected as a part of this role

Salary Range: • Annual Salary at $68,077 - $72,500 depending upon experience and education
Position Type: Permanent Salary • 8-hour workday (Monday through Friday) – Overtime may be required
