We are currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Aquatic Facility Technician in our Facility & Property Services Department.

About the Opportunity:
The Aquatic Facility Technician reports to the Manager, Facility & Property Services but is embedded within the Aquatic Services area. The Aquatic Facility Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, preventative maintenance and repair of all mechanical and architectural components, fixtures and equipment within the City of Leduc’s aquatic facilities in order to provide safe, comfortable and fully functioning pools and aquatic systems for staff and users. The position is also responsible for record keeping and data entry associated with facility maintenance, coordinating contracted services, sourcing suppliers and ordering parts and/or equipment as well as working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
The City is seeking an individual that has experience working with mechanical systems (particularly with pumps, valves, piping) and is willing and able to become trained on pool-specific mechanical systems; OR an individual with experience operating pool systems who has a strong aptitude and willingness to be trained in the maintenance and repair of these systems.

An on-call rotation should be expected, shift work and overtime may be occasionally required.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Performing routine mechanical operation tasks such as filter backwashes, chlorine gas cylinder changes, chemical feeder adjustments, pool computer adjustments and completing repairs to pool mechanical system components

Coordinating routine maintenance activities or specialized repairs of pool systems with Aquatic Services Supervisory Team and/or external contractors and other facility technicians to minimize facility/amenity downtime and impacts to service delivery

Planning for and coordinating the seasonal infrastructure/system start up and shutdown of Leduc’s outdoor pool and spray park

Planning for and coordinating the annual maintenance closure for Leduc’s indoor aquatic centre

Liaising with the Aquatic Services Supervisory Team to align facility and system seasonal work and projects with service delivery and staffing elements

Creating, updating and communicating standard operating procedures related to aquatic facility mechanical systems

Developing and delivering training to Recreation Services and Facility & Property Services team members on the operation of mechanical systems

Monitoring and ensuring regulatory compliance with respect to pool operations and aquatic facility infrastructure (i.e. public health standards, building codes, industry best practices, etc.)

Inventorying chemical/mechanical supplies, placing orders, and organizing the costing and procurement of parts and labour, as required

Supporting the Manager of Facility & Property Services with lifecycle planning and budgeting for aquatic facility infrastructure and pool systems

Ensuring that safety equipment, safety systems, WHMIS, TDG and standard operating procedures related to pool chemicals and the operation of pool systems is maintained and current

Ensuring that all employees and contractors are working in compliance with safe work practices and site-specific procedures

Inputting and updating repair and maintenance records in facility asset management software

Remaining current on new pool technologies and industry trends

Requirements:

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following:

High School diploma

Minimum 3 years of experience in building maintenance or building mechanical, some experience with aquatic facility and pool systems

Basic computer skills are required

Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety programs, particularly with the handling of hazardous materials

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team and other departments

Independent decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills

Must be able and willing to work flexible shifts, evenings, weekends and overtime as required

Must be able and willing to provide coverage in an on-call rotation

Must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check at own expense

Must be willing to obtain and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Level Security Clearance (applied for by the City)

Must be fully immunized against COVID-19 and be willing to provide proof of immunization, or provide written approved exemption on the basis of a protected ground under the AB Human Rights Act

The following experience is considered an asset:

Coordinating projects

Plumbing or pipefitting

Working in a municipal environment

Certifications:

AARFP Pool Operator Level 2 (or equivalent) - applicants without this certification are encouraged to apply but must be willing and able to attain this certification

Standard First Aid with CPR Level C

Class 5 Drivers License (with less than 6 demerits)

The following are considered an asset:

AARFP Building Maintenance Level 2

Plumbing or pipefitting Journeyman Certification

Confined Space Entry

Aerial Work Platforms Operator Ticket

Fall Arrest & Restraint Certification
