Key Responsibilities Include:

Parkland County has a Temporary, Full-time position available for an Agriculture & Environment Technician from approximately June to late December, 2022 with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Manager, Community Sustainability, the Agriculture & Environment Technician is responsible for conducting environmental site assessments, field surveys and desktop reviews of stewardship projects and County-owned properties. This position is responsible for collecting, entering, and analyzing data; and calculating KPIs for reporting on the County’s Alternative Land Use (ALUS) Program, the Environmental Compliance Program, and the Weed Control Program; as well as assisting with establishing, monitoring and maintaining demonstration sites or other field-based projects in restoration, naturalization, bioengineering and weed control. This position is also responsible for occasionally providing technical support on special projects. Additional duties of this position include writing material related to plan and policy updates, participating in administrative meetings, and performing various administrative tasks.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in agrology, biology, ecology, hydrology, landscape architecture, environmental engineering, and/or environmental sciences is required.

Field experience using environmental/agricultural assessments and monitoring techniques is an asset.

Experience undertaking biophysical, riparian health, range health, water quality, and/or environmental site assessments is an asset. Basic understanding of agriculture, landscape ecology, wetland and ecosystems ecology, regulatory and non-regulatory environmental stewardship, and an understanding of provincial and municipal environmental regulatory regimes within the Alberta context is an asset.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, GIS systems, GPS technology and Database management programs and ability to learn new programs and processes is an asset.

Must possess well developed organizational, technical, and interpersonal skills as well as be able
to work independently or as part of a team as required.

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Upon hire, a current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Rate of Pay: $32.64 – $40.80 per hour
Hours of Work: 7 hours/day; 35 hours/week
