We are currently recruiting a full-time, permanent FCSS Community Navigator for our Family and Community Support Services department.
About the Opportunity:
The FCSS Community Navigator reports directly to the Manager of FCSS. This position will provide timely and appropriate support to residents requiring services specific to those who are unhoused or are at risk of becoming homeless. The Navigator will build relationships with program participants to provide direct caseload support, referrals, information, crisis intervention, and enhanced wellness options for those in need. This position will also work with internal and external stakeholders to take collective action to deliver community direct client support and consistent levels of service across all stakeholders impacted by daily interactions with this demographic. By being a visible presence at key locations in the community the Navigator will establish relationships with the most vulnerable residents and help to reduce the impacts of those who have barriers to accessing traditional services.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Identify, support and build relationships with the most vulnerable in our community who may be experiencing mental health, homelessness, poverty, and/or substance use challenges via service coordination and system navigation
- Create flexible client-focused plans, goals and outcomes for residents including helping with paperwork, and advocating with many levels of systemic systems e.g. Provincial government programs
- Facilitate community partnerships with the aim of aligning coordinated client centered community standards and support systems for our shared caseloads
- Foster and build relationships with the community and businesses at a neighborhood level and among service providers in the broader community to support a collaborative approach to change
- Have the ability to utilize already established agency relationships to connect with participants and provide a high level of service as a key member of multiple formal and informal teams across the community
Requirements:
Qualifications:
You are an ideal candidate if you have the following:
- Diploma in Social Work is required
- A degree in Social Work, Human Ecology, Psychology, or an equivalent field is preferred
- Suicide Intervention, mental health first aid and standard first aid are required
- Clean Child Welfare Criminal record check and Driver’s abstract is required
- Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience
- Experience working one-on-one with individuals and families that are at risk
- Experience working with residents who are impacted by homelessness, poverty, mental health, and substance abuse
- Experience directly working in a homeless shelter or for an overnight mat program would be considered an asset
- Training in trauma-informed care, substance abuse awareness, psychological first aid, and Naloxone training would be an asset
- Municipal experience is an asset
- Must be willing to provide a current Criminal Records Check at own expense
- Evening and weekend work may be required
