Summary

Under the direction of the Shop Foreman, this position is responsible for performing repairs, troubleshoot, adjust, and maintain all light and heavy-duty equipment and all light and heavy-duty vehicles in a fleet environment. Maintain the cleanliness of the shop, and tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • To maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Check and inspect equipment and vehicles for proper performance;
  • interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using testing equipment to determine extent of repair required
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications and legislated regulations
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on vehicles and equipment
  • Assist in the day to day operations of the shop including housekeeping and the maintenance of equipment & tools within the shop
  • Completion of written service reports and records of maintenance for each unit or vehicle
  • Other duties as required may include manufacturing and welding in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • May be required to assist in other Operation Departments.

Decision Making and Accountability

  • This position requires the ability to work independently, yet cooperatively in meeting the maintenance and inspection compliance requirements of government agencies and Kneehill County.

Administrative Responsibility

  • This position works under the direction of the Shop Foreman. You must complete and properly fill out work orders and inspection forms, in accordance with Kneehill County Maintenance program.

Working Conditions

  • Position typically works out of Kneehill County’s main shop, however, there may be some requirements for work at construction sites or other rural locations throughout the County dependent on equipment requirements.
  • Exposure to outside elements in all types of weather conditions
  • Some risk of injury when working with heavy equipment and power tools
  • Position requires physical strength and stamina and the ability to work in cramped and awkward positions. May be required to lift items weighing over 25 kilograms

Safety

  • Follow the guidelines, assigned responsibilities, and accountabilities as outlined in the Health & Safety Program Manual.
  • Participates in safety training as related to the position, or within the County’s standards or expectations

Requirements

  • Heavy-duty Equipment Mechanic Trade Certification with a minimum 1 years
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Operators License; Class 1 and or 3 considered an asset
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certification desired
  • Able to effectively meet the physical demands with this position
  • Fleet maintenance background would be an asset
  • Demonstrated cleanliness and organization, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated safe working skills and a proven record of safe work practices
  • Quality customer relation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competent computer skills and familiarity with Office 365 is an asset.
  • Ability to keep up to date with changes in technology
