Maintenance/Shift Supervisor Requirements
- Clean the aquatic area, change room, and staff room
- Work in accordance with WHMIS, Town Health and Safety, and safe work practices
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance
- Report on and attend to all incidents, first aid, and work orders, etc. with proper documentation delivered to the Aquatic Supervisor via the Aquatic Head Guard or designate
- Communicate with the Aquatic Head Guard (or designate) or Aquatic Supervisor on matters pertinent to their shift
- In the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor or Aquatic Head Guard (or designate), may be responsible for the evacuation of the building during an emergency, calling in replacement staff, evicting unruly patrons, and following established policy and procedures while doing so
First Aid
- Provide first aid to patrons and other staff
- Must maintain minimum requirements and stay current on skills and knowledge
- Complete all appropriate documentation for first aid and incident reporting before leaving shift
Swimming Fitness / Instruction
- Provide swimming lessons
- Conduct and develop lesson plans for swimming instruction
- Evaluate students’ performance during instruction and maintain records of performance and attendance
- Provide screening for patrons unsure of their water safety level
- Provide fitness instruction or advanced aquatic programming when qualified
Lifeguarding
- Promote a positive perspective and relationship between the public and the Town
- Provide lifeguarding at the level of National Lifeguard Certification
- Maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons
- Maintain fitness level and current certifications at all times
- Must be able to perform all skills of National Lifeguard Certification at all times
- Interact with the public in a positive way to educate patrons in safety issues and model appropriate behaviour in a pool environment
- Handle complaints and suggestions in a positive manner
- Attend and participate in in-services
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the aquatic facility
- Ensure adequate guarding is in place at all times as per LSS and facility guidelines/procedures
Chemistry / Operations
- Work with the Aquatic Head Guard to appropriately adjust water chemistry to ensure public safety at all times
- Follow water program in a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly plan as set up by the Aquatic Head Guard and the Aquatic Supervisor, including and not limited to overflows, backwashes on the sand filters, basin dumps, vacuuming, cleaning cells and traps or related activities up to and including working a shutdown
- Record accurate documentation of water tests and chemical adjustments
- Record chemical and janitorial inventory
- Maintain confidentiality in matters pertinent to water chemistry, records, and reports
Other Duties
- Ensure public compliance with facility safety procedures and deal with patrons’ questions and concerns regarding swimming lessons and pool schedules
- Undertake other duties as assigned by the Aquatic Head Guard (or designate) and the Aquatic Supervisor
