In 2009, the AAMDC in partnership with Service Alberta and Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development conducted a Rural Connectivity Gap Analysis. Now in 2011, the same parties and the AUMA have updated the information to gain a clearer picture of the broadband service throughout the province. The analysis examines the entirety of the province, labelling each portion as ‘served’ or ‘not-served’. The AAMDC has maps on its website from the 2009 study indicating where there is coverage in all counties across the province. Updated maps will hopefully be available for members to view their connectivty access soon.

The new data is already being used by Service Alberta to move forward their Final Mile Broadband Initiative intended to ensure high speed service to a minimum of 98% of Alberta homes and businesses. They are continuing the work towards Request for Proposal development, which will bring concrete solutions to ensure all Albertans have access to internet services.
