Leduc County, the growing, diverse, metropolitan, rural municipality south of Edmonton is offering a new and exciting opportunity to support Leduc County residents in developing a local food network while being an advocate for the agricultural and food production industry in Leduc County and the Leduc region.
The LOCAL FOOD COORDINATOR is a resource to residents to support, develop and strengthen their capacities as local food producers and assist them in connecting with food consumers in order to develop more self-reliant and resilient food networks in the region through networking, education and partnerships.
Key Responsibilities Include:
The Local Food Coordinator establishes and fosters connections between new and existing Leduc County growers and livestock, supports the re-visioning of small-holding agricultural activities that are permitted within certain districts of Leduc County, explores the development of community gardens, provides support and resources relating to expertise on horticultural and agronomic matters related to local food production, gardening and tree maintenance and creates landscaping designs for Leduc County roadside signage and shrub bed developments.

Requirements:
The preferred level of education required by this position is a diploma/degree in agricultural business (or related field) with experience in event coordination and a passion for the local food system. The incumbent should have knowledge in plant bio-systems that may include agronomic and horticultural pests and pest management and have a keen interest in gardening and plant materials.
The incumbent must possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with the general public, co-workers and peer professionals. Additionally, the individual must be able to manage their time effectively and have proven organizational skills while working independently or within a team environment. An agricultural or farming background is considered an asset. The incumbent must have a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers’ license.
